Embracing the Outcast

Matthew 8:1-3 NLT

"Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. 'Lord,' the man said, 'if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.' Jesus reached out and touched him. 'I am willing,' he said. 'Be healed!' And instantly the leprosy disappeared."

GmEkklesia,

In this passage, Jesus demonstrates radical compassion by touching a man with leprosy, an act that defied societal norms and religious laws. Lepers were considered untouchable and isolated from the community. Yet, Jesus’ touch signifies His willingness to reach those marginalized and deemed unworthy.

At Ekklesia, we're challenged to embrace those whom society overlooks. Who are the "untouchables" in our lives? Is it the homeless, the addict, or the estranged family member? Jesus calls us to step out of our comfort zones and extend love and grace to everyone, regardless of their status or condition.

Reflect on who might be the "leper" in your context. Ask God for courage to show His love through tangible actions. Let us be a community that mirrors Christ’s love, breaking barriers and restoring dignity to all people.

What if our understanding of purity and holiness is more about embracing the broken than maintaining appearances? Jesus invites us to rethink our approach, prioritizing mercy over judgment.

Lord, give us hearts like Yours, ready to reach out and heal the broken. Help us to see beyond societal labels and extend Your love to those who need it most. May we be instruments of Your grace, transforming lives through Your touch. In Jesus' name, Amen.
