Praising God Gives Us Permission to Pour Out Our Hearts

Psalm 34:18 (NLT)

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”

Ekklesia, hear me this morning:

You do not have to pretend with God.

Sometimes we've learned how to praise publicly while hurting privately. We know how to smile, say “I'm blessed,” and keep moving—even when something inside of us is broken.

But Psalm 34:18 says something beautiful: God does not move away from the brokenhearted. He comes close.

David praised God, but David also cried. He questioned. He lamented. He told God when he was afraid, frustrated, lonely, and overwhelmed.

That's why praise doesn't require pretending.

And yes—

God can handle your venting.

There is a difference between turning away from God in our pain and pouring our pain out before God.

Tell Him, “God, this hurts.”

Tell Him what disappointed you. Tell Him what you don't understand. Tell Him what you're struggling to forgive.

You don't have to tell everybody your business—but don't hide your heart from God.

And hear this today:

What you pour out before God doesn't have to poison you from within.

Jesus understands wounds. He was rejected, betrayed, wounded, and crucified—yet what people did to Him did not determine what came out of Him.

And Calvary wasn't the end.

Resurrection came.

So whatever hurts today, don't make your pain your permanent address.

The Lord is close.

Today's Declaration

I will not pretend before God. I will pour out my heart to Him. My pain will not become my identity. The Lord is near, Jesus is still healing, and what hurt me will not have the final word.

Let Us Pray...

Father, thank You for coming close to the brokenhearted. Give me courage to be honest with You about what hurts. Keep bitterness from taking root, heal the places I've hidden, and teach me to praise You without pretending. I surrender my heart, my hurt, and my healing to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
