When the Journey Tests the Family
Pressure reveals what's inside us. Trust determines what we do with what is revealed.
“If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us...”— Numbers 14:8
When the Journey Tests the Family
Not everybody handles the wilderness the same way.
In Numbers 14, Israel had seen God's power, experienced His provision, and received His promise. Yet when the journey became difficult, fear took over. Some complained. Some wanted to turn around. Joshua and Caleb looked at the same circumstances and said, essentially, “Trust God.”
That's because pressure has a way of revealing what's already inside us.
It can reveal fear, frustration, impatience, bitterness—but it can also reveal faith, perseverance, compassion, and trust.
Ekklesia has experienced our own journey. We've moved, adjusted, waited, prayed, and wondered what was next. And everybody hasn't experienced that journey the same way.
But now that God has brought us home, our response shouldn't be, “Look who made it.”
It should be:
“Look what the Lord has done.”
And rather than judging someone else's response to the wilderness, perhaps today's better question is:
What did the wilderness reveal in me?
If it revealed fear, let God replace it with faith.If frustration, let Him develop patience.If hurt, let Him produce healing.
And if it revealed faithfulness—stay humble.
Because homecoming should never produce superiority.
Homecoming should produce gratitude, humility, and hospitality.
God didn't bring us home to prove that we were better.
He brought us home to show that He is faithful.
Today, resist the temptation to evaluate everybody else's wilderness experience.
Turn the mirror toward yourself.
What comes out of me when life doesn't go according to plan?
When I'm inconvenienced?
When God takes longer than I expected?
When people disappoint me?
When leadership makes a decision I don't understand?
When I can't see where God is taking me?
Don't become ashamed of what the pressure reveals. Give it to God. Revelation can become an invitation to transformation.
And here's the second challenge:
Think about somebody who didn't handle a difficult season the way you thought they should.
Give them grace.
You don't know everything they were carrying.
Let's Pray...
Father,
Thank You for staying with me through every season of my journey.
When pressure reveals fear, frustration, impatience, or anything in me that doesn't reflect You, help me not to hide it or blame someone else. Use what is revealed to transform me.
Teach me to trust You when I don't understand the journey.
And give me grace for people who respond differently than I do.
Keep me humble when I'm faithful, compassionate when others struggle, and grateful when You bring me through.
May my life never say, “Look what I accomplished.”
May it always testify:
“Look what the Lord has done.”
In Jesus' name, Amen.
I WILL TRUST—AND I WILL GIVE GRACE.
Today I will allow pressure to make me better, not bitter.
I will examine myself before criticizing someone else.
I will trust God's direction even when I don't understand His route.
And when God brings me through, I will leave the door open for somebody else.
I won't use my testimony to condemn someone.
I'll use my testimony to point someone to God.
