“Why Go Back?”
Galatians 4:9 NLT“So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world?”
Hello Ekklesia Family
Imagine being freed from prison—gates opened wide, your name cleared, a fresh start given. Yet somehow, you ask to return to the same cold cell. Sounds foolish, doesn’t it? But this is exactly what Paul addresses with the Galatians—and with us.
In Galatians 4, Paul challenges believers who were tempted to return to legalistic, ritualistic, or even pagan traditions. He says plainly: “You know God now… or more powerfully, God knows you.” This is not a knowledge of facts—it’s intimate, covenantal relationship. Paul is asking, “How can you go backward into bondage when you’ve been brought forward into sonship?”
The “weak and useless principles” refer to religious systems, cultural customs, and fleshly desires that once enslaved us. They may look appealing for a moment, but they lack power, truth, and eternal purpose. And when we revert to them, we reject not just progress—we risk rejecting the grace of God Himself.
Beloved, we are not who we used to be. The Spirit of God is teaching us daily, molding us moment by moment, and drawing us into something greater. Why go back to what once broke us, trapped us, or numbed us? Why revisit chains when Christ has handed us keys? There is glory ahead. There is freedom now. There is Jesus in every next step.
Abba Father, we surrender the temptation to return to old mindsets, old wounds, and old idols. Thank You for knowing us, loving us, and calling us higher. Holy Spirit, remind us that we are no longer slaves—we are sons and daughters. Teach us daily. Walk with us faithfully. We choose to move forward with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you’ve been standing in the doorway of your past, it’s time to step into the promise of your future. Jesus is calling. Join us at Ekklesia Christian Life Ministries, where we walk boldly in the freedom of grace, growing deeper in Christ, together.
