Extravagant Worship in the Face of Misunderstanding
Good morning my Ekklesia Family
Have you ever been misunderstood for doing something out of pure love? Maybe you gave when you didn’t have much. Maybe you forgave when everyone told you to walk away. That’s exactly what this woman did—she poured out what others couldn’t understand, but Jesus received it as worship.
In Bethany, a woman entered Simon the leper’s house carrying an alabaster jar—something costly and precious. She anointed Jesus’ head, not knowing she was prophetically preparing Him for burial. The disciples, focused on logic and budgets, called it a waste. But Jesus called it worship.
He said, “She has done a beautiful thing... wherever the Gospel is preached, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”
Why? Because it wasn’t about perfume—it was about purpose. She recognized who Jesus was, and she gave her best before the cross, not after the resurrection.
Don’t wait until others approve to give God your best.
Pour your oil. Break your jar. Worship anyway.
Even when others misunderstand, Jesus defends the worshiper.
He receives every act of love poured out at His feet.
What is your alabaster jar?
What’s something valuable God is calling you to give in worship, even if others don’t understand?
Lord Jesus, I want to give You my best—even when the world calls it foolish. Help me pour out my time, my treasure, my tears, and my testimony for Your glory. Let my worship be prophetic, not performative. Defend me when I’m misunderstood, and remember me when others forget. I break my jar today for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Have you poured your heart out to Jesus? Maybe today is your moment to surrender completely and walk in discipleship. Join us at Ekklesia Christian Life Ministries, where we don’t just talk about the Gospel—we live it. Come grow with us. Come pour out your alabaster jar.
