Not Everybody Wants to Understand—and You Won’t Always Be Understood
Ekklesia Christian Life Ministries Daily Devotionals with God and His Word
Good Morning My Ekklesia Family,
Let this truth settle your spirit today:
Not everybody wants to understand—and you won’t always be understood.
Some people don’t reject Christ because they can’t understand—they reject Him because they won’t. Their hearts are hardened by pride, pain, tradition, or fear. Others will engage in endless debates—spiritual, political, or emotional—not because they’re seeking truth, but because they’re resisting transformation. And still, God has chosen you to carry truth, not to force it.
In John 10, Jesus revealed a powerful truth to the people:
“I am the good shepherd. I lay down my life for the sheep.”
But instead of unifying them, His words caused division.
“When he said these things, the people were again divided in their opinions about him. Some said, ‘He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?’ Others said, ‘This doesn’t sound like a man possessed by a demon! Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?’”
—John 10:19–21 NLT
This passage reminds us: even Jesus—pure love, truth incarnate—was misunderstood. So what makes us think we’ll always be understood when we stand for Him?
Discernment comes by the Spirit, not the flesh.
Jesus promised in John 14:16–17 that the Holy Spirit—the Advocate—would come and guide us into all truth. But He also said that the world cannot receive Him, because it doesn’t recognize Him. But you do. You recognize the Spirit, because He lives in you.
So if others don’t understand the joy you have, the peace you carry, or the reason you’ve forgiven them—they’re not rejecting you.
They’re just not ready for Him. Yet.
That’s why you don’t argue. You don’t strive. You stand. You pray. You shine.
Don’t waste energy chasing approval. If Jesus wasn’t universally understood, neither will you be.
Let your life be louder than your explanations. Your peace and patience will preach when your words fall flat.
Pray for soft hearts. Today’s mocker could be tomorrow’s disciple.
Let’s pray…
Holy Spirit, thank You for living in me and guiding me into truth. When I feel misunderstood, help me rest in the confidence of Your calling. Give me grace to love people even when they don’t understand me. Help me to speak truth with love and walk away in peace when I must. I trust Your timing in revealing Yourself to others. May my life be a witness even when my words are rejected. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you’re ready to stop trying to understand everything in your own strength and start trusting the One who understands it all—His name is Jesus. He is the Good Shepherd, and He laid down His life for you. Will you let Him lead you?
He understands you—even when no one else does.
