“It Will Be Alright: Trusting God After a Mistake”
Ekklesia Christian Life Ministries | Pastor Stephän Kirby
Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT — "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
A potter never throws away the clay just because it wobbled on the wheel. Instead, he presses it down, reshapes it, and begins again. The flaw doesn’t cancel the future — it invites the potter’s hands in closer.
When Solomon says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart,” he’s speaking not just to those on the mountaintop, but especially to those who’ve stumbled in the valley. The Hebrew word for trust implies "to lie helpless, face down." It’s total surrender, especially when we can’t fix what we broke.
The phrase “do not depend on your own understanding” is God’s gentle rebuke and loving rescue — saying, “You don’t have to figure this out alone.”
We’ve all had moments when we knew better — and still did it anyway. Mistakes come with shame, but grace comes with Jesus. When we turn back to God, even with broken pieces in hand, He doesn’t reject us — He redirects us. It will be alright because He is still God. He still loves you. He still has a plan.
1. Acknowledge the Mistake – Own it. Don’t excuse it. But don’t live in it either.
2. Ask for Guidance – Ask God: “What do You want me to learn from this?”
3. Adjust with Grace – Forgive yourself. Walk forward with new wisdom.
4. Abide in His Love – God doesn't abandon His children — He redeems them.
Encourage Someone Else - there's someone you know of who has made a mistake. Just like you've been in courage, encourage them to trust God.
Heavenly Father, God the Source of Life,
I come with my hands open and my heart humbled. I’ve fallen, but I thank You I’m not forsaken. I made a mistake, but I am not a mistake. Redeem this moment. Rebuild my trust. Lead me on the path that still leads to You. I surrender the shame and receive Your grace.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
If you’ve walked away, now is your moment to walk back. Jesus hasn’t changed His mind about loving you. At Ekklesia, we welcome you — not for being perfect, but for being willing. Join us as we follow the One who makes all things new.
