Do You Really Hear Him? Do you Really Understand?
Scripture Focus (NKJV)"When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, 'Hear Me, everyone, and understand: There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!’" — Mark 7:14–16
Notice how Jesus frames this teaching. In verse 14, He calls everyone close and says, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand.” Then in verse 16, He repeats, “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”
When Jesus says something twice, He’s pressing it into our spirit. This is more than just sound hitting our eardrums — this is about letting His truth enter our hearts and reshape our lives.
The Pharisees were listening but not understanding. They focused on outward rituals, but Jesus revealed the deeper truth: what defiles a person isn’t what goes in, but what comes out. Sin is born within — in the hidden places of the heart — and it eventually reveals itself through our words and actions.
So the question isn’t “Did you hear it?” but “Did you understand it, and will you live it?”
Life-Changing Applications
Listen with the Heart, Not Just the Ears – Don’t just let God’s Word pass by. Pause, pray, and let it sink in until it changes your thinking.
Examine What’s Coming Out
of You – Your words and actions reveal what’s in your heart. If bitterness, anger, or pride are flowing, it’s time to surrender those hidden places to God.
Practice Obedient Hearing – True hearing leads to doing. When you truly hear Jesus, you’ll obey Him and bear fruit that reflects His Spirit.
Prayer of Surrender and Encouragement
Lord Jesus, You said, “Hear Me and understand.” Give me ears that truly hear You, a heart that receives You, and a life that reflects You. Remove from me the things that defile, and fill me with Your Spirit. Encourage me when I grow weary, and let what flows from my life be Your love, peace, and truth. Amen.
Invitation to Christian Discipleship
Beloved, hearing is not enough — understanding and obedience must follow. If today you hear Jesus calling you to a new life, don’t ignore Him. Receive Him. Follow Him. He promises: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV).
At Ekklesia Christian Life Ministries, we invite you to walk with us — a called-out family of believers, reflecting the image of Christ Jesus.
