The Prophecy of Jesus Christ

The Prophecy of Jesus Christ — Luke 2:25–35

— Pastor Stephän Kirby

Scripture Focus (NLT)

Luke 2:25–35 introduces Simeon, a righteous and devout man who waited for “the Consolation of Israel.” Moved by the Holy Spirit, he recognized the infant Jesus as God’s promised salvation—revealed not through spectacle, but through obedience, patience, and spiritual discernment.

Simeon’s prophecy reveals both promise and paradox. He declares Jesus as salvation prepared for all people—a light to the Gentiles and the glory of Israel. Yet he also foretells resistance: Jesus will be a sign that is spoken against. Salvation will expose hearts. Redemption will disrupt comfort. Simeon’s words to Mary—“a sword will pierce your soul”—signal that God’s plan brings glory through suffering, purpose through pain, and victory through surrender.

This is the divine pattern: God fulfills promise through perseverance, and revelation comes to those who wait in faith.

Jesus is not merely a comforting Savior; He is a clarifying Savior. His presence reveals what is true, what must change, and what must die so new life can rise. Simeon’s fulfilled hope reminds us that waiting on God is never wasted, and obedience positions us to recognize divine fulfillment—even when it arrives in unexpected form.

Practical Life-Changing Applications

  • Wait with expectation: God keeps promises on His timetable, not ours.

  • Welcome the light: Allow Christ to expose and heal hidden places.

  • Embrace the cost: Purpose often comes wrapped in discomfort before glory.

  • Live surrendered: Fulfillment follows obedience, not control.

Let's Pray

Lord Jesus, like Simeon, we choose to wait with faith and live with hope. Search our hearts. Expose what needs healing. Give us courage to follow You even when the path includes sacrifice. We surrender our expectations to Your will and trust Your promise over our fear. Let Your salvation be fully formed in us. Amen.
