What Does the Ekklesia Do When the Government Does Not - Part One

Beloved, here we are again — another government shutdown. First of all, we trust in God. Second of all, we remember — we’ve been here before with “crazy politicians.” Third, and always — we trust in God again.

The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Timothy 2:1–2 (NLT): “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.”

The Ekklesia — the called-out assembly — was never built on the strength of political systems. Rome rose and fell, yet the Church of Jesus Christ endured. When earthly governments shut down, Heaven’s government is still open. Isaiah 9:7 says His reign and peace will never end.

So what do we do? We feed the hungry when the programs don’t. We clothe the naked when the budgets stall. We lift prayers when policies fail. We keep being light in darkness, because our faith is not in Congress, but in Christ.

Father, we surrender our anxieties about this shutdown. Remind us that You own the cattle on a thousand hills. Encourage us to be Your hands and feet, meeting needs in our communities. Give us grace to endure, hope to inspire, and faith to stand.

Lord, touch the hearts of our government officials. Give them wisdom beyond their own. Restrain selfish ambition and release servant leadership. As Your Word directs, we pray for them that we may live quiet and godly lives.

If you don’t know this unshakable King, today is your day. Trust in Jesus Christ, who never shuts down, never defaults, and never fails. Join the family of faith — the Ekklesia — where hope never runs out.

Peace and Blessings,

Pastor Stephän Kirby
