A BETTER WAY (A Father’s Day Message)

Matthew 11:25-30
25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. 26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!
27 “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Jesus offers weary people the Father's better way—a life of relationship, learning, and rest.
Growing up, my father taught me many things. Not only did he teach me fatherhood, he taught me how to preach and pastor. He taught me how to work with my hands. He taught me upholstery and often reminded me that learning a skill meant I would never have to depend entirely on someone else for provision.
But one lesson stands above the rest.
He would often allow me to do something my way first.
Then he would show me a better way.
Not to criticize me.
Not to embarrass me.
But because he loved me.
In Matthew 11, Jesus does something similar. He begins by thanking His Father for revealing truth to humble and teachable people. Then He turns to the crowd and offers one of the greatest invitations in Scripture:
"Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
The people were tired.
Tired from religion.
Tired from expectations.
Tired from carrying burdens they were never meant to carry alone.
Jesus wasn't inviting them into another religious system.
He was inviting them into a relationship.
Then He says:
"Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you."
Notice the words: "Let me teach you."
Jesus is saying:
"There is a better way."
A better way to live.
A better way to trust.
A better way to carry life's burdens.
His yoke is not heavy because His heart is not harsh.
He is gentle.
He is humble.
He desires our healing, growth, and peace.
Many of us are exhausted because we keep trying to solve spiritual problems with human strength.
Today, Jesus is still saying:
"Let Me show you a better way."
PRAYER
Father, thank You for every person You have placed in our lives to teach, guide, and encourage us. Thank You for godly fathers, spiritual fathers, mentors, and examples. Most of all, thank You for Jesus, who continually shows us a better way. Help us release the burdens we were never meant to carry and trust You completely. Teach us Your ways and give us rest for our souls. In Jesus' name, Amen.
REFLECTION QUESTION
What burden have you been carrying that Jesus is inviting you to place in His hands today?
