When Guidance Doesn’t Look Like What You Wanted

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” – Proverbs 3:5–6
Imagine giving the keys of your car to someone you fully trust. You’re in the passenger seat now — you don’t control the wheel, the speed, or the route. Sometimes the road feels rough, and sometimes it takes a turn you never expected. That’s what asking God for guidance is like: you must trust the Driver, even when you don’t see where He’s taking you.
When we pray, “Lord, guide me,” we often mean “Lord, confirm my plans.” But divine guidance rarely looks like human preference. Abraham left everything familiar. Moses was sent back to Egypt where he least wanted to go. Jesus prayed in Gethsemane for the cup to pass, yet surrendered to the Father’s will. God’s guidance is not always what we want — but it is always what we need.
-God’s direction may not match your desire, but it aligns with His destiny for you.
-Guidance requires surrender — letting go of what you thought life would look like.
-Trust means being willing to walk even when you don’t see the full map.
Next time you pray for guidance, add this: “Lord, prepare me for the answer, even if it’s not what I expected.”
Father, in the name of Jesus, I give You the driver’s seat of my life. When Your path looks different from my plan, give me the courage to follow. Help me trust that even closed doors, delays, and detours are part of Your design. Strengthen my faith so that I don’t resist Your hand, but rest in it. I surrender today, believing You are guiding me into something greater than I can see. Amen.
If you’re ready to let God guide your steps — not just in the easy places, but in the uncertain ones — say “Yes, Lord!” today. Trust His leading, and He will never fail you.
